Unique Design Approach Creates Connectivity to the Community for OneNKY® Center

Its welcoming, “open-arms” design invites and embraces both visitors and tenants

COVINGTON, Ky. (October 1, 2024) – OneNKY® Alliance is an organization, unifying community with an impactful voice, resulting in world-class standards of community vibrancy, health, and education for all throughout Northern Kentucky (Kenton, Campbell and Boone County). The organization led the work with several community partners and organizations to bring the OneNKY® Center, which is owned by the NKY Port Authority, to fruition.

One of these organizations, Corporex, a national, privately held investment and development firm based in Covington, Kentucky, serves as the developer and construction manager on the OneNKY® Center. Corporex collaborated with Phoenix Architecture on the project to create a very specific feel to the building.

“Not every job we do is a masterpiece,” said Jason Williams, RA, NCARB, LEED AP Principal, Director of Design Phoenix Architecture. “But being involved in something like the OneNKY Center, that impacts the community, is an honor.

The OneNKY® Center is unlike any other. Once completed, it will serve as a physical connector for ten economic growth organizations dedicated to advancing communities in Northern Kentucky, including BE NKY Growth Partnership, Catalytic Fund of Northern Kentucky, Covington Life Sciences Partners (CLSP), EducateNKY, Horizon Community Funds of Northern Kentucky, meetNKY, Northern Kentucky Bar Association, Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, OneNKY Alliance, and Thomas More University Division of External Affairs. It also serves as the gateway into these communities. The building design was meticulously crafted to convey intentionality while harmonizing seamlessly with the beautiful Kentucky skyline along the Ohio River.

Another incredibly unique design consideration of this project is the participation of the tenants from the start. Many buildings for commercial use are built, leased to tenants and then modified to the tenants liking. From the beginning, the tenants of the OneNKY® Center were involved in the design process, ensuring the space catered to each organization’s specific needs while also creating shared areas for collaboration.

“People will be using this every day, and the success of the project relies on the tenant’s happiness – it’s as much about their satisfaction as it is about the owners’. This is a project I’m really proud to be part of because of its deeper meaning for the community,” said Williams.

While other buildings in the NKY skyline soar upwards, designed with their occupants in mind, the OneNKY® Center’s design intentionally remains grounded to connect with the community it serves. Its welcoming, “open-arms” design approach invites and embraces visitors to its tenants.

“The benefits that this building will provide to the community are innumerable,” said Chairman of Corporex, Bill Butler. “The OneNKY Center centralizes the organizations dedicated to making our region a top-tier destination to work, live and play, making a path for growth easier to build together.”
